Saraki, Ibrahim Emerge APC Senatorial Candidates

Immediate past governor of Kwara State and serving senator, Dr. Bukola Saraki and a member of the House of Representatives, Dr Rafiu Ibrahim, yesterday emerged as All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for Kwara central and south senatorial zones respectively for next year’s election.


Saraki won the senatorial primaries for his Kwara central constituency with a total of 1540 votes cast by delegates to the primary.

Ibrahim polled 2,463 votes at the primary election held in Omu-Aran, Irepodun local government area of the state. Just like Saraki, Ibrahim was also a sole contestant in the election.

The delegates election which produced Saraki as the party’s flag bearer was held peacefully on the field of Kwara Hotel, with Saraki as the sole contestant.

Speaking with journalists after his election , Saraki charged President Goodluck Jonathan to come clean on the state of the nation’s economy.

He noted that Jonathan “has so far been less than truthful on issues bordering on the health of the economy”.

He said arrangements have been made to ensure that the APC presidential primary was rancour free.

He equally expressed optimism that any of the presidential aspirants of the APC who loses out in the primaries would see himself as sacrificing personal ambition to rebuild the country and therefore, would stand with the winner to ensure a successful outing for the party at the general elections.

He described the emergence of his former security adviser, Yinka Aluko, as senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara central zone, as a sign that the opposition party in the state does not have quality mind and so, had to pick someone trained by him to contest against him.
