Groups disagree over Ekiti House of Assembly crisis

Two political groups in Ekiti State, the Opomulero Vanguard and Ekiti Development Agenda have disagreed over the crisis besetting the Ekiti State House of Assembly.

In a statement, on Monday, Opomulero Vanguard, maintained that Ekiti lawmakers should conduct legislative business inside the House of Assembly and not outside the state.

According to the statement by the convener of the group, Mr. Stephen Oladipupo, only the State House of Assembly remained the venue for legislative businesses in the state.

It said, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Ekiti people recognise that the legitimate seat of the Ekiti State House of Assembly where all legislative businesses should be performed is the hallowed chamber of the state Assembly.

“It is a great disservice to the people and a mockery of the legislature for those who are driven by personal political gains at the expense of the collective good and progress of Ekiti State to want to paint a picture that is inimical to the peace and development presently witnessed in Ekiti State.”

But Ekiti Development Agenda accused the state Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, of dividing the House of Assembly.

According to the spokesperson of the group, Mr. Bola George, “What Governor Ayo Fayose has done is inimical to the development of Ekiti. How can he present the budget to seven lawmakers? This is wrong. He should be a statesman and play decent politics.

“Politics is not a do-or-die affair. Ekiti development should be paramount. We all must work for the greatness of the state. Elected individual must live above board.”
