‘Air Force has launched 6,000 bombs against Boko Haram sect’

The Nigerian Air force has launched 6,000 bombs against the Boko Haram since the war against insurgency started in the North-eastern zone of the country.

 The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, who disclosed this at the Nigerian Air Force end of year get-together and award night at the weekend, said this was the highest bomb the Nigerian Air Force had launched in any operations.

 In his prediction for 2015, Air Marshal Amosu announced that the war against terrorism would continue,saying whatever efforts being put made, ‘‘they must be able to double it, and when the insurgency has been defeated, they need to stay around to mop up for a longer period of time. So the war continues.”

 According to him, “what we need is to be ahead of the game, we need to be prepared to integrate all acquired assets. We have a lot of assets and how do we integrate these assets into the existing Nigerian Air Force system, I predict that the mission system must change by February next year.”

 Amosu said the success recorded in the Air Force was hinged on the Air Officers Commanding (AOCs) and  Commanders, as they gave very good account of themselves.

In his remark, the minister of defence Lieutenant General Aliyu Gasau Mohammed, (retd), who was the special guest of honour called on the Nigerian air force to domicile their technology for effective performance.

Gusau, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence , Alhaji  ismalia Aliyu, said “their quest to enhance operational capability in the 21 century, no military can afford to stand by and depend on borrowed technology.

The minister said every time a new platform was acquired, it also meant a detection of borrowed, and sometimes, circumvent technology.
