THE abducted former Accountant-General of Bauchi State, Alhaji Bappa Tilde, has been killed by his unknown abductors.
The 72-year-old Tilde was abducted last Saturday, at Nuru Quarters in Bauchi, while returning home from the mosque, where he observed his night prayers.
Both security and family sources confirmed the death of the septuagenarian to journalists, on Thursday, in Bauchi, though both could not agree on the intention of the abduction over the deceased.
A top security source described the death of the one-time accountant-general as an assassination, saying the abductors did not demand for any ransom since he was abducted last weekend.
However, a family source said the abductors demanded for ransom, with a view to freeing the late Tilde, saying the family was in the process of negotiating with the abductors when he was killed. He did not reveal how much was demanded by his abductors.
Some residents of Bauchi told journalists on Thursday, that the abductors brought the deceased close to Eid praying ground in Bauchi on a motorcycle and shot him three times on his head, left his corpse and fled.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Tribune was not able to confirm this from security agencies.
Meanwhile, the late Tilde was buried on Thursday morning, following funeral prayers held at the palace of Emir of Bauchi. The prayers was led by the Chief Imam of Bauchi, Alhaji Bala Babainna Ahmed.
