‘Rigging can lead to bloodshed in 2015’

A former Secretary of the National Democratic Coalition, Senator Remi Okunrinboye, has warned that any attempt to manipulate next year’s election could result in bloodshed.

Okunriboye, who was the chairman at the annual Press Week of the Ondo State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, which commenced on Monday, said the only panacea for peace after the polls was the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct free and fair elections.

He, however, said losers of the elections should be quick to congratulate the winners and not make inflammatory statements that could ignite violence.

Okunrinboye advised media professionals to allow the truth to be their watchword as many people would base their judgment on media reports.

He dispelled the insinuations that the country would disintegrate after the general elections, saying election results would never lead to the disintegration of the country.

The Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Environment, Mr. Bola Ilori, in his address said the corruption, insecurity and indiscipline ravaging the country would become a thing of the past once Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) was elected President.

Ilori said that as soon as Buhari emerged President, there would be no violence in any part of the country.

But Chief Banji Kuroloja, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, said the election should not be a do-or-die affair.
