Police discover 2 bombs in Imo

A major disaster was averted yesterday as Imo State Police Command discovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted in a popular restaurant located at Ikenegbu Layout, in Owerri metropolis.

One of the explosive devices was planted in between the split unit air conditioners in the lobby of the restaurant, while the second device was planted at the back of the restaurant close to the cooking gas cylinder.s

The state Commissioner of Police, AbudulMajid Ali, who briefed newsmen at the scene of the discovery, said the command received a distressed call from the manager of the eatery at about 21.30 hours, raising the alarm over a distressed call he received.

“We were alerted by the manger of the restaurant at about 21.30 hours that he had received an anonymous call who had informed him that bombs have been planted in the restaurant and that if he refused to pay up that he would be dead this night. Immediately we received the distressed call, I personally led the anti-bomb disposal squad to the place. At the restaurant, we discovered that the first IED was planted in between the split unit air conditioner at the lobby and as we made a further check in the building, we discovered another one wired to the cooking gas cylinder at the back of the house and both were successfully removed.”

Although, the Imo police boss stated that no arrest had been made, the police had already commenced investigation to unravelled those behind the planting of the devices.
