Jonathan Directs Ministers, Villa Visitors To Wear Armed Forces Emblem

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday directed ministers, government officials and visitors to Aso Rock to wear the Armed Forces Remembrance emblem for one month.


He also directed his Chief of Staff, General Jones Arogbofa (rtd) to compile the list of those who failed to redeem their pledges to the Nigerian Legion during the inauguration of the emblem last year and ensure that about N75million outstanding pledges are redeemed.

The president gave the directive at the inauguration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem at the Presidential Villa.

Business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim donated N30million and 10 vehicles to Nigerian legions at the event.

Jonathan’s directive entails that ministers, government officials and visitors will be prevented from gaining entry into the Presidential Villa without wearing the emblem till January 15, next year during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

He said wearing the emblem was a sign of solidarity for those who died in the course of serving their fatherland, even as he saluted the courage of the armed forces in defending the sovereignty of the country and maintaining peace and security.

The president implored Nigerians and private organisations to donate generously to the launch of the emblem as a sign of appreciation for the sacrifice made by fallen heroes, as well as encouraging those still in the service.
