Ebonyi PDP Crisis: Youths Foil Attempt To Kidnap Govt Functionaries

There was pandemonium and tension this morning in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital as suspected hoodlums numbering over 20 invaded a 3 star hotel along Onwe Road and attempted to abduct some government functionaries who were waiting to receive the former minister for Health and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu.

According to an eyewitness, the hoodlums invaded the hotel, chased the staff away, and took hostage one of the government functionaries present. However, when they attempted to zoom off, luck ran out on them as the vehicle they came with refused to start.

“While, they were struggling to start the car, some youths also invaded the hotel, rescued the abductee and chased them away. In fact it was a worrisome situation, how would youths invade a hotel where people were waiting to receive a governorship aspirant? it is the highest level of desperation.”

“The perpetrators of the act openly displayed the poster of the governorship candidate they are supporting and from all indications, they must have acted on his instructions. The plot is to disrupt the grand reception of the former minister. The Police must be up to its responsibility and arrest the perpetrators of the act,” the eye witness said.

Similarly, another group of thugs suspected to be loyal to a faction of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at about 10am invaded the state’s judicial headquarters and chased off judges, magistrates, lawyers and other judicial workers from the court premises.
