2015: How El-Rufai Won Kaduna APC Guber Ticket


Former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has emerged the winner of the gubernotarial primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kaduna State ahead of the 2015 guber polls.

Mallam El-Rufai defeated other four aspirants, who contested with him in a primary election that started Thursday 4th and lasted through the night to the early hours of Friday 5th December, 2014.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Salisu Muhammed Lukman the director general of the progressive governors forum who was one of the aspirants has congratulated Mallam El-Rufai over his victory and opined that all those who contested and other party stakeholders try to harmonize themselves around a minimum program for the state that can unite all to work for the success of the party in the 2015 polls.

“Let me therefore use this singular opportunity to congratulate Mallam El-rufai on his victory and assures of my support to work for the success of the party in the task ahead to unseat the PDP in the state” he said in a press statement personally signed by him and issued to newsmen in Kaduna shortly after the primary election.

The other aspirants who contested the primary with Mallam El-Rufai are a member of the Federal House of Representative Isah Ashiru, 2011 governorship candidate on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) Haruna Sa’eed and another member of the Federal House of Representative Mohammed Shamshudeen Ango Abdullahi.

At the end of the election, Mallam El-rufai pulled 1,965 votes, Isah Ashiru pulled 1,379 votes, Haruna Sa’eed pulled 127 votes, Shamshudeen Abdullahi Ango pulled 25 votes while Salihu Mohammed Lukman pulled 22 votes.

Announcing the results at the early hours of yesterday at the Kaduna international trade fair, venue of the primary, the returning officer Prince Ekenyem Nwafor Orizu said accredited delegates were 3557, total vote cast 3546, valid vote cast 3518 and invalid votes are 28.

Among the invalid votes was one casted for Mallam Nuhu Ribadu by one of the delegates.

The returning officer who declared Mallam El-rufai as winner haven pulled the highest vote cast commended the manner in which the delegates comported themselves during the election, while calling on the unsuccessful aspirants to rally round the winner to ensure that the party emerge victorious at the 2015 general elections.

In his acceptance speech shortly after he was declared winner, Mallam El-rufai thanked all who supported him and particularly those who contested with him and have accepted defeat in the spirit og sportsmanship.

He commended the transparent, free and fair manner the election was conducted while calling on other aspirants to join him in the struggle to make Kaduna State great again as a big family, “ I will visit other aspirants so that we can unite to vote out PDP in 2015.”

He said his priority among others will be to fix the education sector by providing free education from primary school to junior secondary school level, just as he said the APC government will bring to an end the insecurity not only in Kaduna State but in the country at large.
