Supreme Court Ruling: Calm Returns To Taraba

FRIDAY’S Supreme Court ruling that removed former Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar and ordered immediate reinstatement of impeached former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Sanni Abubakar Danladi, has ended a two-year political imbroglio in the state.

   The ruling which also made Umar, the biggest casualty of the Supreme Court, has not only begun to wipe away the drooling tears on the faces of the people, majority of who in the past two years were reduced to the status of mendicants in the state, but has as well began to bring the people who had been divided along religious line to gather.

  Served an impeachment noticed on the 3rd of September, 2012 and eventually impeached on the month of October, same year, Danladi, who felt sad at the way and manner the impeachment was hurriedly carried out, did not resort to violence, but sought justice from the courts.

  Though he failed to triumph at both the High Court and Appeal Court, he never relented.  As the news of his victory filtered into the state, security operative could not control the crowd who gathered at the airport to receive him. 

The Senate committee chairman on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Bwacha, told The Guardian that the ruling is an indication “that the judiciary is still the last hope of the people.”    Explaining that the Supreme Court has proved itself as comfort zone for justice, Bwacha admonished the people irrespective of their religion, ethnicity or political affliations, to extend an olive branch that would help Umar succeed in executing the policies and agenda of his boss, Governor Danbaba Suntai.

  Also baring his mind on the court verdict, the newly appointed Secretary to the State Governor (SSG), Gebon Timothy Kataps, called on all to join hands with the present administration to make available to the people the much-desired dividends of democracy.
