UNBELIEVABLE:President promises Zamfara people airport
He made the promise just as he was conferred with a traditional title of “Garkuwan Manoman” (protector of farmers in Zamfara), by the Emir of Zamfara, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir.
Jonathan was in Gusau in continuation of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign.
He paid a courtesy visit to the emir before proceeding to the Trade Fair Complex, Gusau, venue of the rally.
Kabir told the President that the State Traditional Council would soon announce a date for the President’s turbanning.
He thanked Jonathan for appointing two indigenes of the state as ministers.
Meanwhile, the President has promised to ensure that the state gets an airport, if he is re-elected in February.
He observed that all PDP-led states bordering Zamfara have airports.
He listed the states to include Jigawa, Gombe and Kebbi.
“All the PDP states around Zamfara have airports. These are places like Jigawa, Gombe and Kebbi. All you have to do is to vote for the PDP and I will work with Shinkafi to give you an airport,” the President promised.
He noted that just like his home state, Bayelsa, Zamfara State had challenges, including lack of infrastructure, unemployment and a problem of improving agriculture and fishery.
The President assured the people that he would work with the PDP governorship candidate, Mamuda Shinkafi, to develop the state.
He said Zamfara was an agricultural state that must be supported by the government to help produce enough food for the country.
He said, “That is why we are emphasising on agriculture that Zamfara is known for.
“We must fix Bakolori Dam and irrigation project for our farmers. We will work with you to explore the solid minerals in the state to create jobs for the young people.
“We will also improve education and that is why we created a university in Zamfara State.
“We will make sure we step up on agriculture. That is why we also have a silo here; about 100,000 metric tonnes capacity. We will do everything to make sure we create jobs for you; to make sure that you are educated.”
